COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Neville House shelter partnered with the Bloomington-Normal Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.—and local business C&N Beauty Supply to host a beauty supply drive for domestic violence survivors in McLean County. The drive, held in March for Women’s History Month, aimed to provide products that support survivors’ self-esteem and economic empowerment.  Central Illinois Proud

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bloomington man was detained in McLean County and charged with drug DUI and reckless homicide for causing a fatal crash.  The Pantagraph

CULTURE NEWS

  • Illinois Humanities said that active NEH grants in central Illinois will not be repaid—causing a nearly $2 million cut that may limit future arts and museum projects. Some local groups that rely on these funds could see their plans change because of this reduction.  Central Illinois Proud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Illinois State University United Faculty Union reached a tentative agreement with the university Friday—averting a planned strike—and union members will vote on the terms with details to be shared after ratification expected by April 18.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Illinois Wesleyan University will launch its All In for Wesleyan annual fundraising campaign on Tuesday, April 8 to provide more opportunities for current and future students—supporting new academic programs on campus.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A complaint was filed with the State Board of Elections against former Normal mayoral candidate Kathleen Lorenz for allegedly breaking campaign finance laws by accepting a $28,000 contribution through the local GOP — Ben Matthews, who filed the complaint, said the money bypassed individual donation limits and disclosure rules. A closed preliminary hearing is expected in early May to review the allegations.  WGLT
