ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report by Insurify said tariffs could drive auto insurance rates in Illinois 18% higher - causing drivers to pay about $300 more than they would without the tariffs. Data journalist Matt Brannon noted that the increase depends on which tariffs are imposed on imports, metals and auto parts.  Cities 92.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois State University reached tentative agreements during talks between the professors' union and administration on work loads and course organization; four straight days of bargaining sessions start today—one of which is set for Thursday—to address the remaining issues if a strike occurs. Some classes remain delayed while students show strong support for fair treatment of their professors.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Representatives from AMVETS Post 270 in McLean County presented funding to the Heartland Community College Foundation to create an endowed nursing scholarship in honor of Vivian O. Stockdale, a former commander who served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. The scholarship honors her service in the WAVES program—her work helped ease nursing shortages in the community.  Cities 92.9
  • The Pratt Music Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for private music lessons offered through Illinois Wesleyan University's Music Preparatory Program.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois polling places are campaign-free zones that ban any campaign materials within 100 feet of their entrances. Tazewell County clerk John Ackerman and McLean County clerk Kathy Michaels said voters should remove or cover such items — early voting ended Monday at 7 p.m.  Central Illinois Proud
  • McLean County Sheriff Matt Lane said his department launched an investigation into a complaint that school officials broke election rules with a website that urged voters to approve a 1% tax on today's ballot—no outcome is expected before the election.  Central Illinois Proud
