COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Connect Transit is asking for baby supplies for its 23rd annual Stuff the Bus event—local families in need may benefit from community donations as the drive unfolds.  The Pantagraph
  • McLean County’s Toys for Tots program marked 25 years by helping 130,000 kids and collecting 28,000 toys worth over $500,000 last year as volunteers prepare for the Christmas season. Director Troy Ziegler, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, said he will continue to lead the drive while the community comes together (many volunteers once received help from the program) to support children in need.  WGLT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Samara Jane, winner of WGLT’s inaugural Highway 309 Studio Sessions Contest, performed her award-winning song 'Fine' and two other songs at the station's studio in Normal on December 2nd. In an interview—she explained that songwriting serves as therapy for processing emotions and preparing for a future music therapy career—she said that writing songs helps her heal while inspiring others.  WGLT
  • Bloomington native Matthew Curry signed with Ruf Records this fall—he will join the Blues Caravan Tour in Europe throughout January with Laura Chavez and Elise Frank. He will perform a one-night-only show at the Castle Theatre on Dec. 12 and his album One for the Ride will be re-released in the U.S. on Feb. 27.  WGLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Roy Magnuson, director of the new Adaptive Edge Institute at Illinois State University, said college classes must change to use generative AI to boost learning. The institute launched in August and is testing new methods that help teachers give quick feedback to students.  WGLT

FINANCE NEWS

  • CEFCU’s board approved a record $55 million Extraordinary Dividend that was deposited on Dec 2 into savings and debit accounts for members in good standing—this payout matches last year’s record and is part of $565 million in dividends returned over 25 years.  WJBC
  • CEFCU distributed a $55 million extraordinary dividend Tuesday—returning funds to savers, borrowers, and debit card users. Over the past 25 years—nearly $600 million has been returned to members through these payouts, the board said.  25 News Now
