- ➤ The University of Illinois Extension serving Macon and McLean counties will host pumpkin smash events on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Fairview Park in Decatur and Rader Family Farms in Normal. The Pantagraph
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State University's College of Education is hosting its annual Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday as part of ISU's homecoming celebration — the event will honor notable alumni for their contributions to the college. The Pantagraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Normal announced on Wednesday that several streets—University Street, School Street, College Avenue and Uptown Circle along with Normal Street—will close from 6 a.m. Saturday for ISU Homecoming events including the 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and Homecoming parade. - ➤ The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index dropped by 2.0 points in September to 98.8 as small business owners voiced worries about tax hikes and high energy costs. The Illinois Department on Aging offers free help for Medicare open enrollment from Oct 15 through Dec 7 — while the Department of Natural Resources said many state parks will be open for youth waterfowl hunting.
