- ➤ Calvin Jones, 55, was arrested for robbery, aggravated robbery, and burglary after fleeing a Dollar General on Sept. 2—he was taken to McLean County Jail on Sept. 6 and remains there. Central Illinois Proud
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Members of the ARC join ARC-ulele Hour every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the township facility where players of all levels learn and play ukulele under Martha Tyner’s guidance—Don Mullins, who moved to Normal after retiring, is among the regulars enjoying this program that began in 2018 and sometimes hosts up to 20 participants at local events. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Twin Cities and the McLean County Board are in a dispute over a 10-year sales tax deal — funds collected for mental health services and jail improvements now show a surplus of about $1,000,000 every two months. Mayor Chris Koos of Normal sent a letter asking for an audit and more transparency to ensure that spending is fair. Central Illinois Proud
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Voting is open for the CIProud High School Mascot Round of 32 with 16 matchups including Normal Community Ironmen — Elmwood/Brimfield Trojans, and each voter may cast one vote per round. The voting started at 8 a.m. Monday and will close at 3 p.m. on Sept. 19. Central Illinois Proud
