- ➤ The Humane Society of Central Illinois hosted a Clear the Shelters event Saturday with reduced fees for adoptions and fun for families. At 11:30 a.m. it dedicated Holly Park— a new memorial garden honoring pets, including Holly, created by volunteers and donations. Central Illinois Proud
- ➤ Beginning in September, Bloomington-Normal library cardholders may ride Connect Transit buses free when they show their library card during Library Card Sign-Up Month — managing director David Braun said nearly 70,000 free rides have been provided over the past three years. The service applies to both fixed route and Mobility vehicles. Central Illinois Proud
- ➤ The NAACP Bloomington-Normal branch will host its annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at 10 Brickyard Drive in Bloomington—attorney Aisha N. Davis is set to deliver the keynote address. The Pantagraph
- ➤ John Penn, Mike Matejka, Jason Pascal and Ronnie Paul from Laborers Local #362 shared their favorite volunteer projects in a video—highlighting their strong commitment to local service and community work. The Pantagraph
- ➤ At the David Davis Mansion in Bloomington, union volunteers replaced 130-year-old garden beds in Sarah Davis’ historic garden — a project that helped preserve a local landmark. They also aided other projects including accessible upgrades at Fox Creek Elementary School, reinforcing their long history of community service. The Pantagraph

- ➤ A Heyworth man—Cameron M. Branch—faced charges of cocaine possession and resisting arrest when he appeared in custody Friday afternoon and was released with conditions; his arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 19. The Pantagraph
- ➤ Coy MacIntyre, 25, from Indiana was released from McLean County custody with pending theft, stolen vehicle, burglary, criminal damage, and trespass charges stemming from an Aug. 29 incident — he is set for arraignment at 9 a.m. Sept. 19. The Pantagraph
- ➤ Donald E. Griffin, 53, of Bloomington faces charges for drug delivery including cocaine and alprazolam from incidents on Aug. 12, 20, 26, and 28 and was released from custody after his Friday appearance—he is set for arraignment on Sept. 19. The Pantagraph
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Sweet Corn Circus Festival in Normal drew 24,000 people last weekend—6,000 more than last year—and boosted local business as visitors spent money at local restaurants, gas stations, and hotels. The event sold about 32,000 ears of corn for $1 each and recouped its $30,000 budget to help fund future town events. WJBC
