EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new union representing ISU lab school employees earned certification this summer and plans to start negotiating its first contract this fall. Union president Meg Flanagan-Rudd said members will push for fair pay and balanced workload — concerns raised after non-union workers received a 3.5% raise — while ISU appeals its bargaining unit decision. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Normal received funding from the Ameren Illinois CEC program on Aug. 18 for its transportation electrification plan—this initiative will install EV supply equipment, expand the town’s fleet electrification, and partner with local businesses for EV outreach. Residents and businesses will soon have access to new electric vehicle resources. City of Normal
- ➤ Illinois State Police said westbound I-74 is closed for emergency road repairs between mile markers 120—125 today between Normal and Carlock, and drivers are being diverted at mile marker 125 onto U.S. 150 to rejoin the highway at mile marker 120. 25 News Now
- ➤ State Rep. Regan Deering said her STEAM Opportunity Bill was signed by the Governor — the law tells the State Board of Education to create an online form for groups to post work chances by July 1st, 2026 — and will require the board to share a yearly report of how many groups submitted opportunities starting July 1st, 2027.
