- ➤ Normal police celebrated their mention in Netflix's Wednesday after a mugshot of 'Thing' with a sleek hairstyle appeared in the series, and officers Darien Bachman & Jeremy Flood shared photos of themselves with the signature look on Facebook. - ➤ At around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Flying Dragon’s Pole Vault Club in Normal was robbed at a junior Olympic competition in Texas—thieves stole custom vaulting poles, personal belongings, and a 2021 Chevy Silverado valued at over $50,000. The theft has left the club unable to practice while a GoFundMe—now over $11,000 raised—seeks to help cover their losses. Central Illinois Proud

- ➤ Prairie Fire Theatre is preparing to stage The Baker's Wife—an unusual musical by Joseph Stein and Stephen Schwartz that has never been produced locally—for a run from Aug. 14 to 17 at Illinois Wesleyan University, with a pay-what-you-may preview on Wednesday and $25 tickets for later shows. - ➤ Country Financial and Heartland Community College partnered for the fifth year of their high school scholarship program that lets sophomore and junior students from Normal Community, Normal West, Olympia, Ridgeview, Tri-valley, and University High earn dual-credit courses — giving them a faster route to an associate’s degree. The program focuses on STEM education and includes mentorship — helping students overcome doubts about their abilities in science. Central Illinois Proud

- ➤ McLean County Regional Planning Commission held a public meeting Tuesday at Heartland Community College where about 20 residents and officials raised concerns about a draft land use plan that shows future industrial growth on the outskirts of Normal and Bloomington—critics said the plan was released with little public input. The commission will release a revised draft by mid-September and hold another meeting today at Lexington Community Center for more comments. WGLT
