ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by the National Low Income Housing Coalition shows Illinois workers need about $30 per hour for fair market rent statewide—Residents in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford and Marshall Counties need about $19.29 per hour while those in McLean County require roughly $21 per hour. Bradley University economist Dr. Amit Sinha said rising living costs and a limited housing supply are worsening the affordable housing crisis for many residents.  Central Illinois Proud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois State University is reviewing its diversity programs after a federal letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi warned that some practices might break the law+ risk federal funding. University President Aondover Tarhule said campus teams are working to understand the rules and adjust policies while keeping the university's core values.  WGLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Normal will add eight temporary traffic safety fixes on the ISU campus beginning early September after a study with more than 1,500 responses noted rising crash rates and two pedestrian deaths. Director Ryan Otto said the changes focus on key areas such as the College, School and Mulberry intersection — aiming to slow high-speed turns and improve visibility for pedestrians and cyclists.  WGLT
  • Rep. Darin LaHood announced he will seek re-election to the House after ruling out a Senate run, saying he plans to serve Illinois' 16th District which covers parts of Bloomington-Normal and Greater Peoria—he highlighted his work lowering taxes and backing middle-class families.  WGLT
  • Care For Victims, a new group led by Amy Endicott in Bloomington, reviewed how McLean County agencies share victims’ legal rights and found gaps in communication. The group presented their findings during the Normal Town Council meeting, and town officials noted recent updates while questioning the group’s qualifications—issues that may lead to further changes.  WGLT
