- ➤ Clover's Cat Club has opened its new space at 1531 Fort Jesse Road, Suite 4B in Normal. Co-founded by Paige Sveda and Kari Clark, the nonprofit rescue offers a home-like setting for visitors to meet adoptable foster cats—helping address the community's cat overpopulation problem. The Pantagraph
- ➤ Bloomington Public Library placed a new time capsule behind glass on August 1st that holds items from its recent renovation such as a Lego replica, 3D-printed objects, a roll of pennies, a toy car, and a team bobblehead. Children also made their own capsules during a celebration in the quiet room on the second floor — the capsule will be opened in 2050. WGLT

- ➤ A California man, 40-year-old Osvaldo Anaya Ramirez, was arrested on Interstate 74 in McLean County when a trooper stopped his box truck and found 30 packages of cocaine worth more than $3 million—he now faces charges for controlled substance trafficking and related offenses. WJBC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State University raised a record $44.5 million in private gifts for fiscal 2025—this record amount marks the highest donor support in the school's history. The Pantagraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, asphalt work is beginning on Fort Jesse Road from Hershey Road to Kaisner Drive—this will cause temporary closures at its intersections with Hershey and Airport roads while motorists are advised to use other routes. The town also announced a westbound lane reduction on West College Avenue between North University and North Main with detours starting at 4:00 a.m. and ending Tuesday afternoon. The Pantagraph

- ➤ Two mobile home park residents in south Bloomington reached a settlement with their Texas-based landlord after filing a lawsuit in 2024 over alleged illegal fees and rent hikes. Under the settlement, Oak Wood Properties will amend lease terms and review charges dating back to October 2023 with refunds by Aug. 23—changes that will extend to its other McLean County properties.
