  • On July 29, 2025, the Normal Cornbelters hosted Disability Pride Night at the ballpark where 12-year-old Ian Welch threw the ceremonial first pitch as his family and fans cheered him on. Brad Welch said the event helped families feel welcome — local groups and Lifelong Access joined to mark 35 years of the ADA and promote inclusion in McLean County.  The Pantagraph

  • Green Top Grocery issued contest rules for its small business spotlight contest set for August 4th—local business owners should review the guidelines for eligibility and submission requirements.  WJBC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Illinois renewable energy groups face uncertainty as the new federal tax bill will end key tax credits, which could raise electricity bills and risk up to 52,000 jobs while projects must be completed by 2027—local developers and officials are working to adjust their plans and seek state support for cleaner energy standards.  WGLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beginning 6 a.m. Monday, August 4, Normal will reduce a lane on West Beaufort Street between South Fell Avenue and Broadway for pavement repair — drivers should use caution — and work is expected to finish by 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, weather permitting.  City of Normal
  • Connect Transit started its free on-demand Connect Go service in McLean County last month and now plans to expand the service to nearby counties as demand grows. Managing Director David Braun said his agency will propose longer hours and extra vehicles at the county board meeting in October — expecting a fare to be introduced when the board meets in September.  WGLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • McLean County Health Department confirmed a fourth mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus on July 31 in the 61701 area — staff now distribute door hangers with prevention tips to residents.  WGLT
  • Proceeds from the Carle BroMenn Resale Boutique raised over $246,000 to buy new equipment that will improve patient care at the Medical Center in Normal. The funds paid for an electric EMS cart, a Fibro Scan 550 for GI, a Medtronic Temporary Pacemaker, and eight new patient recliners — supporting long-term community care efforts.  Central Illinois Proud
