COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Beaufort Street between the Uptown Circle and Linden Street will have no parking from noon until 1 p.m. on Aug. 2 for the Fiala Brothers Presents Pub Club Rocks festival. The street will reopen at 11 p.m. as the festival runs from 5 to 10 p.m.  City of Normal
  • Mayor Chris Koos named Adam Nielsen Town of Normal’s 2025 Citizen of the Year at the annual Appreciation Reception on July 29, 2024 for his service and advocacy for Alzheimer’s. He has helped revitalize Uptown Normal and works on the IDPH Alzheimer’s Disease Advisory Committee – efforts that have made a lasting impact locally.  City of Normal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 25News is supporting local teachers with its 'One Class at a Time' program that awards a $1,000 grant—helping educators buy supplies and set up better classrooms. This effort honors teachers who go above and beyond as students return to class.  25 News Now
  • Heartland Community College is partnering with CreatiVets— a non-profit aiding combat veterans— to offer a free art course, CreatiVets Intro to Veteran Art, for veteran students this fall with tuition covered to support those with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.  WJBC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. LaHood hosted a roundtable meeting with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and McLean County Chamber members on Tuesday to discuss key tax provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed on July 4 that aim to provide relief for local businesses. He explained measures such as the 199A deduction, bonus depreciation, and work requirements for SNAP (chamber members expressed support for the changes).  WGLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Students in McLean County must have their required vaccines before starting school—kindergartners need DTaP and MMR while sixth graders and high school seniors require a booster and a meningitis shot—appointments can be made at local health departments to keep immunity strong.  25 News Now
