BUSINESS NEWS

  • Plymouth, Michigan-based Adient will open a new facility in Normal that will supply seating to Rivian + receive a $4 million incentive package from the state. The project is expected to create 75 full-time jobs.  The Pantagraph

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Illinois corn growers faced a tough spring as heavy rains delayed planting and rotted seed in early June, leading farmers like Matt Rush in Fairfield to rely on federal crop insurance from the Farm Bill. Rush said crop insurance eased some risks, but farmers need clearer trade agreements and state bills to secure future economic certainty—hoping for brighter days ahead.  Cities 92.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Heartland Community College’s board approved a $3.4M solar panel array on the north prairie of its Normal campus to help reach 100% energy self-sufficiency—this decision also adds a trustee seat for oversight.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, the Normal Town Council voted 6 to 2 to pause sales tax payments for at least a year for the county's mental health and public safety programs because of an unused surplus of about $20 million. The pause will take effect only if McLean County and Bloomington City Council agree, and a review is proposed with an audit cost of up to ($50,000).  25 News Now
  • A new law may force 360,000 Illinois residents to lose SNAP food help, including over 20,000 in McLean County—by requiring extra work hours unless they qualify for an exemption. Local food pantries in Normal have already seen more families needing help due to rising grocery costs and added strain on food programs.  WGLT
