- ➤ McLean County Animal Services began offering half-price adoption fees on dogs and cats last Friday and will run the discount until August 6 — fees for puppies, kittens, and adult pets have been reduced — to help ease the shelter’s full capacity and find pets their forever homes. 25 News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington Police responded at 11:35 p.m. on July 18th to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Illinois Street near Sunnyside Park and took the victim to Bloomington-Normal hospital where death was confirmed—officials have not released the victim's identity and an autopsy is pending. - ➤ Normal West High School is hosting a garage sale this weekend—students and teachers will raise funds to support junior and senior activities throughout the school year. The Pantagraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The McLean County Board approved a $1.3 million contract with Home Sweet Home Ministries for a cabin village called The Bridge near Downtown Bloomington to help the homeless. The board also authorized an audit of about $20 million in unused mental health and public safety funds, and construction on the project will finish this winter. 25 News Now
- ➤ After Congress canceled about $1.1 billion in federal funds for public media late Friday, WGLT lost $175,000 per year and its NPR partner lost $125,000, forcing local broadcasters to seek community donations and state help. Officials said they plan to fill the budget gap—steps they believe will chart a new path for public media in our area. WGLT
