- ➤ The Normal Public Library at 206 W. College Ave. will reopen on Friday, July 25 after nearly 16 months of closure for a $6.5 million renovation and asbestos abatement project that upgraded its interior, exterior and community spaces—new features include a Children's Discovery Room, nursing lounge and makerspace named Tinker Studio. Public services will pause beginning Friday, July 18 while limited off-site programming and curbside pickup continue. Cities 92.9
- ➤ Normal will host its first open streets event on Sunday, July 20 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; the event will close College Avenue/Mulberry Street from Anderson Park to Main Street for walking, jogging, or cycling—organizers have arranged water stations, family activities, and traffic detours to guide commuters. - ➤ Normal Police are asking for help to locate three suspects who robbed a motel guest at Motel 6 on July 9 — the suspects fled and anyone with information should contact Detective Alex Curry. WJBC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Normal will host its 11th annual Make Music Normal festival on Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19 with over 50 artists performing on multiple Uptown stages from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday and noon to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday—headliners include Front Street Collective and Sun Stereo while vendors and community activities add to the event. Several street closures in Uptown, including parts of Constitution Boulevard and North Street, will be in effect ahead of the festival and are set to reopen after the event concludes around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heartland Community College and Mid Central Community Action continue their partnership to train students in construction skills in a renovated 4,500 square foot space on Washington Street. The courses offer hands-on instruction in building maintenance, technical services, and construction methods, and nearly 70 students have already gained practical skills + are preparing for careers in the field. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The McLean County YWCA has been awarded $505,704 from the Illinois Department of Human Services to provide reentry, pre- and post-release services for inmates from Logan, Decatur, and Lincoln correctional centers—funding that will pay for four reentry specialists to help newly released convicts find housing. The one-year grant aims to help these individuals rebuild their lives. 25 News Now
