- ➤ The Bloomington-Normal Community Land Trust has built momentum since forming two years ago by securing IRS nonprofit status, launching its website, and starting local home improvement projects to build trust before buying and rehabbing its first affordable home in 2026. The trust has raised nearly $13,000 and will hold a wine night fundraiser this Saturday—seeking to reach its $54,000 goal—and is working with local lenders to secure deed-restricted mortgages. WGLT
- ➤ Vera Traver was named this quarter’s ExtraOrdinary Woman for her work with YWCA’s Labyrinth Outreach Services helping formerly incarcerated women reconnect to society. She turned her life around from addiction, jail and homelessness (with help from her faith) and was honored at The Center for Health at Ft. Jesse in Normal (with several of her children present). - ➤ A Bloomington man was sentenced to 72 years in prison for possessing images that depict child abuse—detective testimony on his cellphone provided the evidence against him. The Pantagraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Connect Transit is holding public forums today at the Illinois State University Alumni Center and at Bloomington Public Library to discuss bus route changes, including a plan to replace the red express with a new Mint route, adjust the yellow and pink routes, and boost blue and purple service frequency. The meetings, set for 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., give riders a chance to learn about the proposed changes and share their input — a key step in shaping local transit services. - ➤ Former prosecutor Emily J. Young was appointed as a judge by the 11th Judicial Circuit yesterday and will primarily serve in Logan County plus she has worked as an assistant state’s attorney since 2016 while teaching law courses and coordinating community response teams.
