Good morning, Normal. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 27th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Bloomington nonprofit advanced plans to build more homeless shelters as Home Sweet Home Ministries purchased land on Oakland Avenue for $250,000 from Connect Transit to develop a cabin village that will shelter up to 56 individuals. • The Humane Society of Central Illinois had its air conditioning fail Thursday morning, and donations of box fans and water kept the shelter running — now the nonprofit is seeking monetary contributions as it works to repair the unit and plans temporary homes for some animals amid rising temperatures. Staff expect the heat to be dangerous for the pets unless more support comes in soon.  25 News Now
  • Home Sweet Home Ministries launched the Build The Bridge campaign to raise $750,000 for 48 sleeping cabins and a community building for unsheltered neighbors at 104 East Oakland Avenue—approved by both the Bloomington and Normal City Councils—and is finalizing nearly $1.5 million from a McLean County grant along with a $100,000 donation from Eastview Christian Church.  Central Illinois Proud
