COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Victory Church in Bloomington reopened its building more than three years after a fire forced the congregation to meet in temporary spaces and held a two-day celebration with local faith leaders and residents. Pastors Beth and Ed Herald said the grand reopening marks a fresh start for the church — a sign of renewed strength and hope in the community.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Prairie Pride Coalition held its annual Prairie Pride Picnic at Anderson Park where community members gathered to celebrate and enjoy the event + released photos and video that capture the color and fun.  The Pantagraph

CRIME NEWS

  • Normal police need help locating missing juvenile Riley Semingson, 17—who was last seen at 6:30 p.m. on June 20 at the 1400 block of East College Avenue—and anyone with information should call 309 454 9535.  Central Illinois Proud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Bloomington High School in spring 1970, coach Ralph Sackett told star basketball player Reggie Curry to change his hair and leave the Black student club—an order many saw as racist. The decision sparked protests and a boycott—students demanded 21 changes in school policies on how Black students were treated.  The Pantagraph

  • Normal officials approved mid-June building permits as Michelle Wojcik issued a $50,000 remodel permit for a sunroom at 208 William Drive on June 17 — BNIG Twin City LLC issued permits for two new single family attached homes at 383 and 379 Larkspur Lane for $328,000 and $327,600 on June 11 while Portico Homes LLC approved four new single family homes on Longleaf Drive on June 13 with values of $199,915, $199,914, $219,390 and $205,160.  The Pantagraph
