Last Saturday, Bloomington celebrated its fourth annual Juneteenth at Miller Park, where community members, vendors, and entertainers gathered to honor freedom + Black heritage.

Sponsored by groups including the McLean County Museum of History's Black History Project + City of Bloomington, Heartland Community College and Country Financial, the event marked the historic end of slavery on June 19.

The Mt. Pisgah Subeam Choir sang on Juneteenth to honor the holiday’s legacy — a video of their performance was shared with the community.

Yesterday, June 21, 2025, McLean County agencies conducted a full-scale emergency exercise at Central Illinois Regional Airport to simulate an aircraft incident and test real-time response capabilities—emergency crews practiced triage, transport, and crisis management while officials said the drill met its objectives and offered key insights for improving future plans.

Normal Police Department announced a Fourth of July traffic safety campaign that focuses on impaired and unbuckled drivers.

The campaign began on June20 and will continue until July7 — officers will join the Illinois State Police and over 200 local agencies to promote safe driving.

Special Olympics Illinois hosts its 2025 Summer Games in Bloomington-Normal where over 3,600 athletes will compete in seven sports and 1,200 volunteers help run the event—some even flying in from Florida to support the games amid extreme heat.
