GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New lawmakers in Central Illinois have learned that change is hard in Springfield when many bills stall and the minority party finds it tough to work with established lawmakers. Rep. - ➤ The McLean County Unit 5 board approved a new fiscal 2025 budget worth $239 million and heard from teachers who said cellphones distract students in class (they want them banned). - ➤ The Normal Town Council voted Monday to ban short-term rentals in R1 and R2 residential neighborhoods, which means only 17 existing businesses will continue while 49 will cease operations by 2030.
