- ➤ A Bloomington man pleaded guilty Tuesday to reckless homicide for his role in a September 2023 car crash that killed another man. The Pantagraph
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heartland Community College and Millikin University announced on Tuesday a new transfer partnership that gives students automatic acceptance into bachelor’s programs when they complete an associate’s degree in arts, science, engineering sciences or applied science—or graduate from the Heartland Honors Program. Heartland will also sign an agreement with Illinois State University for business students at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Gregg Chadwick Community Board Room in the Community Commons Building—Room 1407. - ➤ Unit 5 School District updated its phone policy by piloting a red, yellow and green zoning system at Normal West to limit cell phone use and keep students engaged in class. School principal Angie Codron said the new method reduced cell phone referrals after a survey of over 7,300 students, families and staff showed strong support for clearer rules. - ➤ The Ecology Action Center in Normal urges Bloomington-Normal residents to stay in the municipal aggregation program despite a planned 40% electric rate increase this summer. It recommends community solar programs (which offer steady savings) and low-cost home energy audits (that help spot inefficiencies) to help manage rising bills. WGLT
