CRIME NEWS

  • The Normal Police asked the public on Wednesday for help locating 27-year-old Nathan Allen—also known as Aurica Allen or Aviana Allen—who was last seen on April 12.   • Jamie Snow’s appeal for exoneration in his 1991 murder case was denied by the 4th District Appellate Court — upholding its earlier decision to block new forensic testing.  The Pantagraph
  • The Fourth District Appellate Court in Normal denied Jamie Snow’s request for more testing on evidence from a 1991 murder that led to his life sentence for fatally shooting a gas station worker, and he may appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court.  WGLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brendan Hunt, an ISU theater alumnus (1996 grad), is on campus for a three-day residency with the School of Theatre, Dance and Film where he works with students on screenwriting and acting; his behind-the-scenes work helped inspire his Coach Beard character on the Emmy Award-winning show Ted Lasso (which he co-created).  WGLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal approved Constellation NewEnergy, Inc. as the electric aggregation provider after a competitive bid, locking in a fixed rate of 11 cents per kilowatt hour starting June for 12 months — residents will receive a letter and must opt out by May 7 if they do not want to join.  City of Normal
  • McLean County Unit 5 will issue a $10 million bond to cover $9.5 million in urgent capital projects—this measure will be taken before money from a new sales tax arrives.  The Pantagraph

  • Bloomington will host its first indoor Ice Cross event on April 30 at Grossinger Motors Arena with a $7,500 cash prize on the line. Tim Cimmer—known as the Audacious Cowboy—leads a field of racers that includes commentator Brad Jay and competitor Dylan Moriarity on a custom course.  Cities 92.9
