- ➤ Illinois Symphony will conclude its season on May 2 at Illinois State University’s Center for Performing Arts with a world premiere by Michelle Isaac — titled 'Reverie on the Mother Road' — that celebrates Route 66’s 100th anniversary during the Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor festival. WGLT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The McLean County Chamber of Commerce hosted its spring job fair at Heartland Community College on Tuesday, where 45 employers met students for internships, part-time and full-time positions + officials said it was the first workforce effort of the year amid a rising influx of new local residents. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Unit 5 School Board voted to keep Carlock and Glenn Elementary schools open after months of public outcry. Changes to school boundaries and building plans will take effect starting in the 2027-2028 school year while the upcoming 2026-2027 school year remains unaffected. 25 News Now
- ➤ Illinois State University employees continue striking after Wednesday’s mediation session did not lead to contract changes. The union (representing about 300 workers) seeks higher pay and a fair contract as negotiations remain stalled. WJBC
- ➤ Normal West and Normal Community high schools received a $30K grant to help prepare students for a changing digital world. Each school will get $10K yearly over three years to fund teacher training on news literacy (including journalism ethics) starting next year. 25 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At its annual meeting on April 14 at the ARC, township Supervisor Krystle Able said membership exceeded 4,000 and that plans are in place to extend hours and add programs while raising the levy to fund emergency aid—staffing upgrades and capital improvements were also discussed. WGLT
- ➤ Normal’s town and ISU will soon finalize recommendations for traffic safety improvements around campus — including permanent pilot projects and new signage at the intersection of School, College and Mulberry streets. Community feedback from 1,500 survey responses shaped proposals designed to enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic flow. WGLT
