CRIME NEWS

  • Glen Robinson, 61, of Bloomington was detained in McLean County after he allegedly caused a fatal crash on March 8 that killed 49-year-old Scott W. Smith when he ran a red light while under the influence and is charged with aggravated DUI (third offense) and reckless homicide; his arraignment is set for April 25.  Cities 92.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois Wesleyan University and InnoVators will host the 11th annual InnoVators Pitch Competition from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, where high school students can present innovative ideas. Additional details about the format and judging criteria will be shared by the organizers soon.  The Pantagraph
  • Illinois State University and its faculty union reached a tentative contract agreement on Friday, averting a strike after more than 13 months of negotiations. The agreement provides competitive compensation for 650 tenure and tenure-track professors (the union had filed a strike notice with strong member support).  Cities 92.9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Natural Resources advised people to watch young wild animals from a safe distance because human interference can hurt them, noting that the animals usually rely on their parents for care. The department warned that keeping wild animals that seem abandoned is illegal under state law (IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie).  Central Illinois Proud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois House is reviewing a bill that would bar campaign donations from public utilities to political candidates – the measure, introduced by Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid and backed by the Citizens Utility Board, also would stop donations to political action committees.  Cities 92.9
