COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local branch of Alliance for Community Services is expanding its efforts to support seniors, front-line workers and people with disabilities and will host a public meeting at the Life Center for Independent Living on April 20 at 5:30 p.m. to offer voter rights education.  25 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • ISU Planetarium is hosting The Sun, Our Living Star weekend show until May 9 to highlight the sun’s scientific and cultural impact. Attendees can explore the display during the show.  The Pantagraph
  • The Spanish Book Club in Normal has grown to 20 members over seven years and now meets monthly at a local library to discuss Spanish-language literature. Its next meeting is on Apr. 30 at Bloomington Public Library.  WGLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Normal Public Library Director John Fischer said the renovated branch now welcomes 500 to 700 daily visitors and will pursue sustainability certification over the next 18 to 24 months (a program joined by just 100 North American libraries). He also testified at a Springfield hearing on the Digital Library Protection Act that seeks to lower digital title costs.  WGLT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • McLean County residents can drop off electronics for recycling on Saturday, April 4 from 8 a.m. to noon in Normal, and similar drop-offs are scheduled on the first Saturday morning each month.  The Pantagraph
