COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montoya and Jones highlight restorative justice practices in their book chapter, detailing listening circles set up in 2020 to ease community tensions after George Floyd's killing. Their report shows how schools and probation services have begun using these practices to help foster healing.  WGLT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local gas prices jumped 65 cents from February to $3.56 per gallon as the war in Iran pushed oil above $100 per barrel. Analysts say the surge is one of the fastest in years and local stations may raise prices further soon (GasBuddy noted).  WGLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McLean County Unit 5 is looking for a new principal for Chiddix Junior High School & will start the search as the current principal is set to resign after the school year.  The Pantagraph
  • Parents at Chiddix Junior High are questioning the district's limited updates after teachers Andrew Miller and Brandon Knapp were removed amid police investigations and concerns over student safety (the board cited legal limits on what it can divulge).  WGLT
  • The Letitia Green Stevenson chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored 12 local high school seniors with Good Citizens Awards, recognizing their commitment to community values.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington City Council approved a development agreement between Carle Health, the Deneen family and the City of Bloomington to build 35.5 acres next to the Carle BroMenn Outpatient Center. The multi-year project will expand medical services and add retail and commercial space to boost community amenities in the Bloomington-Normal area.  Cities 92.9
  • McLean County has activated a new emergency alert system to send cell phone warnings during spring storms. County agencies can push alerts with a grid map (a more focused tool than IPAWS), and officials said further customization efforts are underway.  WGLT

SPORTS NEWS

  • ISU Women’s Basketball clinched the No. 3 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after a 66-65 win over Bradley with a last-second free throw. The team will face Drake at Xtream Arena in Coralville on Friday, March 13 at 8:30 p.m.  WGLT
