- ➤ A federal judge ruled Tuesday to uphold the Interchange Fee Prohibition Act (a decision banning swipe fees on the tax and tip portion of transactions), a measure expected to offer Main Street stores major relief ahead of its start on July 1. Cities 92.9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teacher Andy Goveia’s classroom at Thomas Metcalf School got a $50,000 makeover after his design earned over 23,000 votes. Students joined a grand reveal to see new modular desks, couches, and flexible work areas, and surplus items will soon be shared with other teachers. WGLT
- ➤ Technology teacher Don Whitman at Normal Community High School was named East Central Regional Teacher of the Year by the Illinois State Board of Education. He is one of 14 educators across the state eligible for the state award to be announced this spring after 27 years of service. WGLT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal investigation into student data sharing at Tufts may soon check similar agreements at Illinois State, which local GOP say could affect campus privacy and local elections. The McLean County GOP calls for tighter oversight + compliance with new federal warnings against improper data handling. Cities 92.9
- ➤ Bloomington Fire Department reinstated its paramedic license requirement and is piloting a fourth shift — it will also use a $200,000 grant to hire community health navigators to boost service for local residents. WGLT
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former Heartland Community College (HCC) baseball player Sam Antonacci will play for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic, an international tournament with 20 national teams. Drafted by the Chicago White Sox last year after a standout season at Coastal Carolina, he said the event is a huge honor. WGLT
