COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A petition led by Cassie McGinnis has gathered over 1,000 signatures to save a historic redwood tree threatened by sewer and sidewalk work at ISU's Fine Arts complex. ISU officials said construction is set to finish in 2028 (pending review) while the tree's fate remains uncertain. WGLT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ BrightPoint and the Town of Normal are hosting the annual Sharin’ Of The Green parade on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. in Uptown starting at School St and North St (The Redbird Spirit Shop), where community members will celebrate Irish heritage and support Central Region Home Visiting. WJBC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, 285 students competed in the annual MLK Chess Tournament at ISU + they displayed strong sportsmanship as the event brought young players together for community celebration. The Pantagraph
- ➤ Bloomington-Normal NAACP is accepting applications for 2026 scholarships (deadline: April 2). The Pantagraph
- ➤ Heartland Community College's board approved a new hybrid diesel technology program (the first of its kind in the state) and building name changes for its campus. The college will launch the program soon to prepare students for future industry needs. The Pantagraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Town of Normal’s Facilities Department earned top honors from ISSA on Jan. 21 for achieving the CIMS and CIMS-Green Building Certification with Honors—one of only two municipalities to meet these standards. This recognition confirms the town’s strong green cleaning practices. City of Normal
