- ➤ Starving Artists, a grassroots network of local musicians, will perform a benefit show on Jan. 24 at the Coffeehouse, 114 E. Beaufort St., to support WYSE Food Pantry; the show begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are $10 plus a discounted $5 rate for donations. WGLT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Normal and Illinois State University announced an extension of the pilot project that limits cross traffic—set for School Street, College Avenue and Mulberry Street—near campus. The Pantagraph
- ➤ Normal firefighters union held a town hall at the ARC on Thursday where Blake Chausse said closing the College Avenue station could drop coverage 10% amid an 89% rise in calls. The union stressed that vulnerable neighborhoods are at risk & scheduled forums on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26. WGLT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local education and health leaders worry that a new $100,000 lifetime borrowing cap on graduate nursing programs may worsen the nurse shortage by pushing some to take costly private loans. ISU nurse educators and local hospitals like Carle Health are closely watching these changes (some say this could shift career choices). WGLT
