➤ Miller Park Zoo euthanized its 19-year-old tiger Rojo on Tuesday after treatments for renal disease failed, exceeding the average lifespan for Sumatran tigers (18 years). He came from Topeka Zoo in 2017, and the species remains critically endangered in the wild. WGLT
➤ Home Sweet Home Ministries celebrated the opening of its new shelter village — a facility offering safe, temporary housing — during a local ceremony today. The Pantagraph

CULTURE NEWS

➤ Community Players will perform 'Waiting in the Wings,' a contemporary romantic comedy about family and ghosts from Jan. 15-18 at Illinois Art Station (101 E. Vernon Ave.) in Normal while their main theater undergoes renovations. WGLT

➤ The town will end leaf collection on Wednesday, Jan. 14 as crews work in each zone until finished, and the process may take several days since collection is not weekly. The Pantagraph

➤ Carle Health announced that Dr. Robert Cavagnol will assume the role of president of the Bloomington — Normal service area on Feb. 2, replacing Colleen Kannaday. He brings extensive leadership and clinical experience to guide local hospitals and clinics. WGLT
